The Amcrest IP5M-T1179EW is a 5MP Turret style PoE security camera featuring:

  • 98ft Night vision
  • 2.8mm Lens
  • 103° Field of View
  • IP 67 Rating
  • Support for local storage via MicroSD (up to 256GB)

The IP5M-T1179EW has a microphone built in for one-way audio (you can hear whats happening at the camera, but can not speak through the camera). It is also a fixed camera, which means there is no pan/tilt functionality. If you want to adjust the camera you must do so physically at the camera. The camera can also be purchased as a 2-pack as well.

For this Amcrest Security Camera, you will have to pickup your own power supply separately if you do not have a means to power the camera through a PoE switch. It does include a mounting plate and mounting hardware for most surface types which is a added bonus.

The Amcrest IP5M-T1179EW features a 5MP CMOS that can support resolutions up to 2592×1944. The camera’s lens can be manually panned 360° and tilted 78°. Night vision is accomplished through 2 onboard IR LEDs. With an operating temperature range of -40° to 140° this camera will also be able to withstand some of the most brutal temperatures as well.

This security camera will also support both H.264 as well as H.265 video codecs and has a 1-year US Based Warranty and Lifetime Support provided directly from Amcrest.

The camera is NOT vandal resistant unlike the IP5M-D1188EW-28MM so keep that in mind if you are in need of that feature.

Access methods

To access the camera you can do so through:

  • Mobile:
    • Amcrest Cloud (subscription required)
    • Amcrest View Pro (Free)
  • Desktop
    • Amcrest Surveillance Pro
    • Blue Iris
    • Web Browser
    • Cloud Desktop

Setup through the Amcrest View Pro app was pretty simple and I did not run into any issues. The app itself provides a lot of features which is great but the layout of the app is a bit overwhelming with all of the features. One thing that is missing from the app is the ability to update the firmware to cameras, which is a bit unfortunate.

I also noticed that some features my camera does not support (such as pan/tilt) are listed within the app even though it is not supported.

If you want to have more cameras and see them all at once, don’t worry as the the Amcrest View Pro app supports up to 16 cameras being shown at once.

The desktop web browser portal will allow for more configuration options and firmware updates:
